Beautiful People || Friendship Edition

Click the pic for more info about Beautiful People!
Beautiful People is hosted by Cait at Paper Fury and Sky at Further Up and Further In. They are both completely awesome and deserve all the cake.

The characters I chose are Quinn (17) and Luna (19), the sisters in that post-apocolyptic, alien-filled, also weapon-filled book I've mentioned on both this blog and on Twitter.

1. How long have they known each other, and how close are they?

They've known each other their whole lives. It's hard to say exactly how close they are. I mean, they trust each other with their lives, but at the same time, they're afraid to address certain "issues" within their friendship. They both struggle with sharing how they feel, but most of the time, they know the other person understands anyways.

2. What’s their earliest memory of being best friends?

Luna remembers taking care of Quinn as a little girl, huddled in the backseat of her dad's old truck while her parents tried to get away from the wide-spread panic and all the attacks.

Quinn remembers throwing her Barbie doll at Luna when they were fighting. (Pleasant, as she always is).

3. Do they fight? How long do they typically fight for?

See above.

They fight a lot. Because of how unwilling they are to talk about how they feel while simultaneously being afraid of pushing the other person away, there's less talking and more poisonous looks and bitter retorts. Their fights last a while, and Luna is typically the first to try and smooth things over. Quinn tends to simultaneously want to confront the problem and ignore it. A lot of how she's kept herself together is by ignoring how she feels.

4. Are their personalities similar or do they compliment each other?

Quinn is a ball of negative energy.

Luna is a ball of noticeably less negative energy.

They're both stubborn and loyal, but Quinn tends to feel things in the extremes. She struggles with showing her feelings more than Luna and is cold and aggressive. This stems from the fact that she has never seen a world without war. Luna, on the other hand, is warmer and more accepting. She holds more responsibility than Quinn, which often results in her blaming herself for things that go wrong. Her positive outlook on life is what's kept her from destroying herself with guilt and worry.

5. Who is the leader of their friendship (if anyone)?

Luna.

6. Do have any secrets from each other?

No. Even if they try to hide things, the other finds out soon enough, just by reading how the other one reacts to certain topics.

7. How well do they know each other’s quirks and habits?

As well as their own, and, occasionally, better.

8. What kind of things do they like to do together?

Is it bad that I laughed a little?

Talk, I suppose. Tease. Engage in playful verbal combat. They live in a world where you don't spend time doing things you enjoy. You spend time doing what you need to survive.

9. Describe each character’s fashion style (use pictures if you’d like!) How are their styles different/similar?

Hm. Well, Quinn wears dark colors. She likes combat boots, loose t-shirts, and leather. Luna likes flannel, cargo pants, and layers.

I imagine that if they could dress however they wanted, they would look something like this:

Luna
Quinn
10. How would their lives be different without each other?

They would both be dead.

I tried to think of something more... pleasant, but I came up empty. Maybe Luna would have lived, but Quinn wouldn't have made it past a couple years.

On that lovely note, thanks for reading! ^_^

Beautiful People {3} Valentine Edition

With every new month comes a new Beautiful People link up. Let us throw some confetti and eat cake and yell: YAY FOR CAIT AND SKY FOR BEING AWESOME.

*clears throat*

I am not a romantic person at all. No one in my immediate family is. (Except my dad, but he's surrounded by emotionless females, and he learned to adjust). So the couples I write are typically not romantic. In fact, they usually just insult each other to their hearts' delight.

This couple doesn't even know they're a couple yet. BUT THEY ARE. Their friends wiggle their eyebrows and giggle evilly when their backs are turned. (So do I).

And, in fact, they've gotten the closest to being an actual couple than anyone else I've written. (this shows how far couples actually get before I send one off to the gallows)

(Again, I am kidding)

But, onwards to our spotlighted couple: Caster and Robyn.

1. How long have they been a couple?

*laughs nervously*

Like I stated above. They're totally a couple while simultaneously stating firmly that they have no feelings for each other. (clueless fools)

2. How did they first meet?

Well, Robyn was a ghost and Caster was very alive, so as you can imagine there was some confusion. They met in the maze Robyn was murdered in. (not a maze like the Maze Runner. I wrote this book when I knew nothing of TMR. This maze was much smaller and much less murderous, and nothing at all like the maze in TMR, except for the part where it is a maze). This is where you might be confused. Robyn died in the maze. So the maze must be murderous. But I have mislead you. Robyn was killed by a person.

I have also gotten off topic.

Caster and Robyn met after he had made his way through said maze. When he turned around-- BAM. There was Robyn, who was very confused since there hadn't been anyone in the maze in, like, a century and also she was supposed to be dead, so why could this random guy see her?

3. What were their first thoughts of each other? (Love at first sight or “you’re freakishly annoying”?)

Well, Caster's first thought was less "you're freakishly annoying" and more "you're freakishly weird." He had full right to that. Robyn thought he was beautiful in the way you look at a different planet and go "wow, that's beautiful, but I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole."

4. What do they do that most annoys each other?

Well, Caster breathes.

(Sorry). Caster does breathe, of course, but he's also snarky and grumpy and wanders around pouting half the time. Dreadful downer, that one. But it's actually the way Caster doesn't seem to care about anything that bothers Robyn.

Caster is just annoyed that Robyn doesn't know anything about the modern world so he has to go out of his way to explain. *eyeroll*

5. Are their personalities opposite or similar?

Less and less opposite as the story progresses.

6. How would their lives be different without each other?

Well, for one thing, Robyn would still be dead, which would be unfortunate. And Caster would be stuck in his "boring" life. (I put quotations because he has a hoverboard. Life could not possibly be boring if you have a hoverboard. Of this I am convinced.)

7. Are they ever embarrassed of each other?

ALL THE TIME. Robyn is embarrassed when Caster is really rude to people, and Caster is embarrassed when Robyn has no idea what is going on and it is really, super obvious.

8. Does anyone disapprove of their relationship?

NO ONE. NO ONE AT ALL. EVERYONE SHIPS THEM.

9. Do they see their relationship as long-term/leading to marriage?

Robyn will want it to be forever. So will Caster. But MARRIAGE??? CHILDREN??? Little wriggling balls of stink???

Now would be a good time to tell you that Robyn is fifteen and Caster is sixteen. Neither of them are thinking marriage.

10. If they could plan the “perfect outing” together, where would they go?

Their options are very limited, but if they weren't... Really, just anywhere. Anywhere new. Anywhere they could explore.

Beautiful People {2} Author Edition

Beautiful People is an AWESOME (monthly) tag hosted by Cait@Paper Fury and Sky@Further Up and Further In. You should definitely check it out. There's a page on Cait's blog that talks all about Beautiful People, and you can find that HERE.

Onwards!

1. How many years have you been writing? When did you officially consider yourself a ‘writer’?

I've been writing for almost eight years. (I started when I was 7, and, needless to say, my writing was horrible). I officially considered myself a "writer" after I finished my first book (which was still terrible) when I was... erm... probably eleven.

2. How/why did you start writing?

'Cause that's what all the cool kids were doing. ;)

I started writing because my sister started writing.

3. What’s your favorite part of writing?

Ooh, probably the same thing as my last favorite part. Discovering all the shiny ideas!!! I love having an idea and creating a world and then being able to put it all on paper. It's so much easier writing what I feel than saying it.

4. What’s your biggest writing struggle?

Sticking with a project for more than a couple days. I always get super distracted or just stop having ideas. Ohhhh, and finding out when it's time for the ending. I can never force myself to think up an outline so, yeah. Endings are always super hard.

5. Do you write best at night or day?

Day. That being said, I've never really written at night.

6. What does your writing space look like? (Feel free to show us pictures!)

I write wherever I've got my computer and a place to curl up, so my writing space is pretty much wherever I happen to be when I'm writing.

7. How long does it typically take you to write a complete draft?

Since the last time I completed a complete draft was over a year ago, I have no idea. Okay. It typically never happens. But the two books I have finished that I will actually acknowledge as books were completed (1) in over a year and (2) in eight days.

Yeah.

8. How many projects do you work on at once?

ALL THE PROJECTS ALL THE TIME. Who says you need your sanity?

Right now I'm narrowing down my projects but usually around three with a couple on the side.

9. Do you prefer writing happy endings, sad ones, or somewhere in between?

A little bit of both. I love writing bittersweet endings.

10. List a few authors who’ve influenced your writing journey.

Erm. Well, Tahereh Mafi and Michelle Hodkin both helped me learn how to write better and more creepily.

11. Do you let people read your writing? Why or why not?

Only one person ever reads my writing, and that is my sister. Mainly because we're best friends and I tell/show her everything.

12. What’s your ultimate writing goal or dream?

PUBLISH A NON-SUCKY BOOK. That's it. That's all I want.

13. If you didn’t write, what would you want to do?

I've never really thought about it. Writing's all I've ever wanted to do, but recently I've been looking into what I might want to do for a college degree (fascinating, I know) and I think maybe engineering, but I'm not sure.

14. Do you have a book you’d like to write one day but don’t feel you’re ready to attempt it yet?

Not really. I kind of dive into everything head-first so any idea I have that I'd like to write, I just try to write. I don't really think about whether or not I'll be able to attempt it.

15. Which story has your heart and won’t let go?

There's a book I started, like, five years ago, and it's still sitting unfinished in my documents file. It's called Beautiful Ashes (ashes as in burnt objects not burnt people, just in case you're as morbid as my dad) and is centered on four teenage mutant ninja turtles.

Sorry, no.

It is centered on four assassins, though. I've re-written the beginning a gazillion times and I've cut characters out and jammed new ones in and completely re-arranged the plot so many times that I honestly have forgotten the plot of the original one.

But I know the characters like the back of my hand and I love them too much to just not-write their stories.

'Til next time!
